STEM rules and guidelines

  • All entries must be submitted in digital format, preferably mp4, wmv or avi format.
  • Each entry must focus on a STEM Career in ONE of identified game changing technology trends for the contest year.
  • Students may work together in groups or submit entries as individuals.
  • The length of the video should not exceed 180 seconds (three minutes), not including the 10 second title screen (see #5).
  • We want students to identify with you as well. The last screen of each entry should include a 10 second full-screen “title screen” that includes the following information:
    • Lead Producer’s name
    • School or group name
    • School/group city, state
    • Title of video
    • Producer or team photo (if desired, not required)
    • Total running time (not including the 10 second title screen)
  • All information presented in the video must be cited, giving credit to the original source. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. IF CHOSEN AS A FINALIST, you must submit a list of your sources, properly cited.
  • Each video must have one Lead Producer to serve as the main point of contact. Recognition and prizes will be given to the lead producer and all those listed as co-producers on the entry form. The lead producer and all those listed as co-producers must be middle or high school students. Recognition and prizes will be awarded to students only.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Entries may be submitted through the website starting on Oct. 1, 2020. The deadline for submissions is 5 pm (central time, US) on Feb. 1, 2021. Winners will be announced no later than March 1, 2021.

  • No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
  • No professional assistance is allowed. Non-students may assist with production but are limited to verbal guidance only (like teachers). Adults and non-students are allowed to be actors or cameramen but not content contributors.
  • All portions of the online entry form must be completed when you upload your video for it to be eligible.
  • Tech Titans reserves the right to include an information page with Tech Titan and sponsor information at the end of a submitted video.
  • IF CHOSEN AS A FINALIST a signed/completed Parent Permission Form must be received for the lead producer and all those listed as co-producers on the entry form. A signed/completed Actor Release Form (available with Resources) must be received for each person appearing in the video. Forms can be entered into the video contest submission tool; scanned/emailed to stem@techtitans.org; faxed to 972-792-2825; or mailed to 411 Belle Grove Drive, Richardson, TX 75080.
  • Content must comply with all local and national laws of the United States. Content must not 1) promote illegal behavior; 2) support racial, religious, sexual or other invidious prejudice; 3) advocate sexual or violent exploitation; 4) violate rights established by law or agreement; 5) invade the privacy of any person; or 6) be otherwise inappropriate as determined by Tech Titans in its sole and conclusive determination.
  • The judges’ decision is final. Entries will be judged by topic, with winners in each of the ten trend setting technology areas.
  • The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize if the entry wins. Tech Titans nor State Farm will pay filmmakers no additional compensation nor be liable to the filmmaker under any circumstances.
  • Students should keep at least one copy of their video. Tech Titans is not responsible for any films that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.
  • Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant, with the following exceptions:
    • Entrants grant Tech Titans and its members the right to use their names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation.
    • Entrants also grant Tech Titans and its members the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the entrant’s project video without further compensation or notification to the entrant.
    • Tech Titans and its members maintains the right to reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, display, or exhibit the project for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.
    • By accepting the prizes, winners agree to hold Tech Titans, its members and all Tech Titans employees harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of such prizes. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused from participation in the contest or use/redemption of any prize.
    • Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
